Use a key file that’s local on iPhone

Post by Snowy » Sat Nov 17, 2018 9:08 am

A feature request would be to able select a key file that is local on the iPhone. Kind of defeats the purpose of the key file it it is cloud syncd or stored in the same place(server) as the database. So just adding to sync services a option to “on my iPhone” similar to what you can see with the Files.app

I am doing this all the time and my key files are local and never synced through cloud.
You have a couple of options to store the key:
1. iTunes - Upload the file to Kypass app
2. Upload through browser from PC/Mac through WLAN: (see screenshot)
3. send the key by email to yourself and use open in feature of iOS and choose Kypass as destination
4. use some form of data management app which you can load with the key local on the phone and use send to to „bring“ the key to kypass. (EG. GoodReader, file Explorer .....)

So a couple of options beside using a sync.

to clarify loading the keys file isn't the issue. however, in my testing it moved that key file into the iCloud sync folder for Kypass. so even if you side load using iTunes or WLAN. The file ultimately ends up in iCloud folder.

Sorry, but then you made something wrong during test. My 3 keyfiles are local to the device only. Not at all synched to iCloud. If you really sent the key file to the application (and not the folder Kypass in the files app) the key files are local to the app only. Deleting the app means loosing the keys.

Yeah I figured it out. Thank you. I would still prefer a simpler workflow. Of what I described which is select option to add key file and have File picker and it imports if need be or just points to the key file.

But then you would import the keyfile from a cloud source.
As said I would recommend to use one of these ways:
1. upload through iTunes
2. direct upload with „add file from your computer“ (Plus sign)
3. send the key file by mail (less secure)

You can also store the file in an app(file manager) that can have the file in its local store (goodreader etc. )
